Day 100 – October 31

Today was our one hundredth day in The USA!
And besides it is Halloween and my sisters birthday.
Party, party, party!

halloween

day100-02

School did some decorating, getting that autumn touch into our lives. Even though it is hard to believe with degrees into the 80’s. Autumn back home is much, much colder.

We will celebrate Halloween at Frank and Margret. They live in a neighborhood that has less rentals, thus more locals than in our neighborhood. Chances are, Halloween is celebrated there more than at ours so more trick or treat and more people dressed up.

day100-03

Camy wanted to get dressed up so we took a look at what Margret had available. She decided to get dressed up like Piet Pirate or even better Camy of the Caribbean.

Unfortunately it is hard to take pictures in the dark with my phone, so they do not turn up real good but lets hope it gives you an idea of what she looked liked. The neighborhood was decorated real nice and everybody did their utmost. And the best part for me, no coats or jackets, try that on November 11th in Holland. So everybody sits out in their front yard waiting for everybody to stop by their homes. The only thing you need to do is walk up to the front door, say “trick or treat” and you are given all kinds of candy, easy peasy!

Frank, Margret, thank you for a wonderful evening, it was awesome to participate and see up close how the Americans celebrate Halloween, thank you!

Day 79 – October 10

Friday morning means Worship at St. Lukes, so we attended chapel once again. We always wait outside so we can see the kids enter church from school, this is Camy and her chapel buddy. First all classes sat together but no they created these families. One student from every grade and this means that the elder have to be a guide for the younger ones. So Camy always needs to go to second grade first to pick up and guide her buddy.

pumpkin

Afterwards we went to a pumpkin patch, I do not know how many pumpkins they had but it was full of them. It of course is almost Halloween.

day79-05 day79-06

We bought 2 small pumpkins so we can make some soup of it and smoothies as well.

day79-07 day79-08

After that we stopped at several yard sales. Fridays and Saturdays it is normal to sell your stuff. So we found an app that informed us all about the yard sales that were going on.

day79-09

And of course, just follow the sign that leads you to them.

day79-11

day79-10 day79-12 day79-11

After school we found this old fashioned place where they sell all kinds of hot dogs.

day79-13 day79-14 day79-15 day79-16

A delicious hot dog along with some fries.

day79-17

At Walmart we saw those pumpkins, not orange but pink. They are baskets which you can use as a bag when you go trick-or-treat on Halloween.

And since we got a birthday coming up we bought a birthday cake as well.

day79-18Here the lady writes the right text on top of the cake.

day79-19

And when we finally arrived home, we found a beautiful card from France in our mailbox, thank you!

Day 73 – October 4

Last night after the One-Direction concert, we were home at about 1.30AM. Traffic was real bad, we had never seen it like this after an event. Normally all is organized real well and you don’t even notice that some 70.000 attended the event. Police always controls the situation, but last night it seemed there was hardly any police to take control and was the worst ever…..
Anyway, Camy had a blast and loved the concert and that is what is all about and made it all worth while.

yard sale

I wanted to go to Celebration today, the annual yard sale was being held in this community. Celebration, as I probably mentioned before, is a well maintained and a well above average community. Everybody who participated had all their stuff out on the lawn or opened their homes and garage.

Those were the signs used to inform the audience on who did and did not have anything for sale.

day73-09

And of course we found time to have a real American hotdog.

day73-10 day73-11 day73-12

And since we are getting closer to Halloween some had already decorated their homes.

We bought some little things, we’ll show you later as right now it is being painted.

Day 48 – September 9

Today was a strange day to start with, first we forgot to bring the laptop, but we found out just before we entered the I-4, so we returned home and picked it up. Only to find out at school that we had also forgotten Camy’s lunch-box. But since it is not worth the drive back we just bought her a sub at Subway’s. Camy wants to forget her lunch more often now :-).

Day47-01

Day47-02 Day47-03

We did some shopping at T.J.Max and I found these nice flip flops, you like  my new ones?

After that we stopped at a store especially decorated for Halloween. It looked like a little shop of horrors, cool all that stuff! You were also allowed to try it and touch everything not to mention all the prices. This year will be the first tie we will celebrate Halloween while in The USA and we are invited by Frank and Margret. They live in a neighborhood with lots of activities and kids that go trick-or-treat. Can’t wait! since Sandy Ridge is being rented out for like 80% it will be quiet and we really want to see this up close and celebrate.
